Why should I join a Writing Group?

Writers at every stage of their careers from beginners to seasoned best-selling authors benefit from feedback about their work from other practicing writers. Many published novelists will tell you that writing groups taught them how to write – from basic sentence structure and grammar, to sensational characters, pacing and plots. As a member of a writing group, you surround yourself with like-minded writers who come together regularly for a single purpose: to give and receive feedback about works in progress. There are different types of writers groups with different goals, so visit a few until you find one that works for you.

Surprise speakers add value!

Our surprise guests will give short presentations during the convention.

  • Tania Joyce, successful romance author, will tell us how to find support and encouragement for your writing.
  • Do you know what you should look for before submitting your work to an editor? Lauren Daniels, excellent editor and newly published author, gives us the low down in just a few minutes. Who else will be chatting with you?
  • Michelle Beesley, regular contributor and columnist for SheSociety online magazine, gives us a ‘behind the scenes’ glimpse of her life.
  • Our final mystery guest is Di Hill. Obituaries – who writes them? Di will pass on her experiences in this field.

Can Lauren Daniels help you develop your writing skills?

No doubt about it! As the director of the Brisbane Writers’ Workshop, Lauren Daniels is a professional writer and editor.  Her poetry, travel writing, essays and articles have been published internationally. A freelance editor and the senior consulting editor for Interactive Publications, she is a member of Editors Queensland, and regularly serves on writing panels.
