Tania Joyce’s thoughts on Writing Groups

This year’s convention promises to be an excellent mix of education and entertainment! Join us on Saturday 21 April 2018 at 9am. Here’s a guest post from Tania Joyce – published romance novelist and marketing guru.

I am so excited to be attending the Brisbane Writers Group Convention again this year.  Writing groups enable anyone and everyone to find a diverse group of people that offer encouragement, feedback and guidance to help you improve and enhance your writing. We are lucky in Brisbane to have a broad range of groups available. It may take you a while to find one that suits you, but believe me, it will be worth it when you find your tribe.

I would not have become the author I am today without my writing groups and critique partners. Yes, I presently participate in three writing groups. They all offer different benefits to me.

At Nightwriters at Mt Ommaney, it is a great, friendly and social environment where the diverse range of people offer feedback. This group encourages you to read your work aloud, which helps you to identify errors, pace and nuances in your writing.

My Yon Beyond group, is my romance writing group. We are all published authors and have been on the journey since we were unpublished authors since 2009 (I joined in 2012). We now discuss business, plots, structures, critique work, advertising, promotions, things that work and don’t work in our life of being published authors.

Then I have my Critters – this is my small, dedicated critique partner group where we rip, edit, kill, pull to pieces, each and every word and every chapter of our work-in-progress.

I will be looking after the marketing tables again this year. So come along to the Brisbane Writers Group convention and see if you can find your tribe, or try a different tribe.  There is no need to be monogamous!
